Subtasking
Structuring of project in subtasks. These can be function-oriented, object-oriented, phase-oriented, or of mixed orientation.
Function-Oriented Structure
Tasks critical to project fulfillment are elaborated first.
Object-Oriented Structure
The project-as-object is subdivided into individual components, modules and parts.
Phase-Oriented Structure
Conception, definition, execution and application. A final report is prepared after each phase.
Mixed Orientation
Object-oriented or phase-oriented is preferred for upper levels; function-
oriented lower levels.
Work Packages
Smallest Planning unit in the PSC, these are never subdivided. Can be assigned to different levels in the PSC. Self-contained, having clear interfaces and boundaries with other work packages. Can be assigned in their entirety to a single workgroup or division.
Job Scheduling
Routine tasks in large, risky projects are divided into small work packages.
